Hermes Jour d'Hermes

Jour d'Hermès is girlish but sophisticated. It's an ebullient floral bourrée at a time when flowers in perfume are sneered at by the young 'uns. Or seem only to be allowed smuggled under the cover of grit and oud, sheep-in-wolf's-clothing style.

But like a resolute posy pressing through a crack in the sidewalk, Jour d'Hermès asserts its right to unabashed floweriness. It's pretty and that's enough.

Jour d'Hermès is available from FragranceX.com, Sephora.com, and BeautyEncounter.com, starting at $70 for 1 oz

  1. I love this review Katie, and I love the casual sophistication of JC Ellena's creations. I'll seek this one out. It's great to see your beautiful smile and exciting reviews again. We've missed you!

    1. Aw, thanks, Jennifer. "Casual sophistication" is a good way to put it.

  2. Thank you for the great review, Katie. I recently tested this one and loved it.
Unfortunately I found it to be very fleeting, at least on my skin. Lack of longevity is a deal breaker for me.

  4. By your description it should be 100% my kind of perfume (as are Cristalle and Envy....) but I am having issues with this one, I can't get over the citrus and wonder, is it grapefruit? It ruins the whole thing for me. Can that be? What am I smelling or not smelling?

    1. Thanks, Cybele. As to what you're smelling or not smelling, that's between you and your nose. But you might glean some insights from a detailed Jour d'Hermes hypothesis on Perfume Shrine by AlbertCAN:
      http://perfumeshrine.blogspot.com/2012/12/hermes-jour-dhermes-fragrance-review.html

AlbertCAN analyzes Ellena's writings and scours his published formulas for clues that point to what makes Jour d'Hermes tick. See what you think.

  6. Thank you, I looked at Perfumeshrine and, well, must be the grapefruit! To me it does not fade enough with time and somehow hinders the flowers/elegance to come out but I will give it another go. Your review sounds like all I love and I guess my nose is fooling me on this one! How do you perceive the grapefruit, Katie? You did not seem to find it very present? Cybele

    1. The tart citrus wasn't a sore thumb to me, Cybele.

  7. Jour d'Hermes was pretty but fleeting, like just about every single last Hermes out there. The only exception I've found is Ambre de Merveilles, which I ran out and bought...AnnieA
