Lolita Lempicka

I'm holding a purple glass apple in my hand, carefully aiming a spritz from its golden stem to my skin, and already I'm sucked into Lolita Lempicka's girly goth universe.

The bottle's so prettily playful, and its curly-swirly writing and faux-boix tree stump atomizer are doing H.R. Pufnstuf things to my brain.

As the scent achieves lift-off, the air fills with violets and licorice and Pixy Stix and unicorn horn. (Synthetic unicorn horn, obviously. It alleviates unicorn poaching, and anyway, natural yield is insufficient for worldwide demand.) Annick Ménardo's creation is magical and sweet and mysterious. And weird. Weird is fun.

Lolita Lempicka is available from Perfume.com starting at $48 for 1 oz

  1. Hi Katie

Mmm, licorice & violets - will seek it out. I fell in love with a sample of a femme fatale violet perfume (La Dame aux Camélias) but it only seems to be available in huuuuge bottles and too expensive for me. This one is a steal at Beauty Base at the moment, hurrah!

  3. Have you tried L de Lolita Lempicka? I was reading comparisons to Tom Ford's Vanilla Tobacco. Could that be true? A big shout out from Miss Mirabelle and I. Always so happy to see you on here. xo M and M.

    1. The last time I smelled L, I don't recall making a mental leap to Tobacco Vanille. But it is rich and sweet, so it probably would have shared fans.

  4. Oh, I love Lolita Lempicka! I don't wear it as often as I do some of my other fragrances, but when I do, I get lots of compliments!! Thanks Katie, for a clever and fun review.

  5. Great review Katie: you are still the reigning Queen of Youtube(by a long shot). Interesting note: I believe this is what was used to fragrance the lobby at fancy the resort I was staying in last week in Los Cabos, Mexico. It is soooo loud....you coulc smell it hundreds of feet away. well, I used to love it but not so much anymore LOL

    1. Such an odd choice for a room "freshener".

    2. A friend of mine said that her aunt used to leave open bottles of Joy all over the house. Another odd, and fairly expensive idea for a room freshener.

    3. Well, my husband likes to spray some perfume on the bed about an hour before bed time, usually less expensive ones from body shop, some times he will use one from my drawer, last night it was shalimar, I liked it, I'm not wearing it any more but I like to smell it, think about it as recycling ;) Hessa

    4. Nora, nutty approach! Perfume needs to hit a target (preferably skin, but fabric will do) before it works its magic. Eccentric aunt (the best kind).

Hessa, the ol' "spraying the sheets" is a good tactic. Mine is to spray my bath water before I get in. There are only so many perfumes you can physically wear during the day, so I sneak another one in at bathtime so I can "go on all the rides".

  6. I gave my bottle away when I started to get into niche fragrances. I am craving it right now. Need to pick up another bottle.

  7. Have you tried Caron's Aimez-Moi? If so, how would you say Lolita L compares with that violet-anise fragrance?

    1. Don't know, offhand. Need to give Aimez-Moi a spin the next time I'm at the Caron counter.

  8. Not too many licorice perfumes out there, to my knowledge. A very nice and very masculine one is Reglisse Noire by 1000 Flowers --AnnieA

  9. Is my nose playing olfactory tricks on me or does Lolita Lempicka smell deliciously similar to Love, Chloe?

    1. I think there's mischief afoot in your nose, DG, because LL and LC are different critters. There may be a crossover in the LL's violet and LC's iris, as well as the puffy sillage of both perfumes

    2. In that case, I may need to recalibrate my nose... ;)
