New Improved Brad Pitt Chanel No. 5 Ad

After stinging criticism of the Brad Pitt commercial for Chanel No. 5, certain...errm...tweaks have been made.

  1. I nearly died laughing! Thank you for posting this video. Aww, poor Brad - I wonder if he regrets having agreed be the new spokesperson. Frankly, I never thought he was a great actor, but this commercial surely made me think even less of him. Sorry, Brad!

    1. "Less than the sum of its parts" applies to this Brad P/No. 5 endeavor, methinks.

  2. Me, too. I agree with AnneMarie above. The cheese factor is just too high on this. Sorry, Brad. Never liked him that much to begin with...But now "Fuggadeboutit," as they say here in Brooklyn.

  3. I'm okay with Brad, but I detest the ad. This is a much better version. Nipple pinches always sell perfume.

  4. Mommy make it stop! It looks like it will go down in history as so very bad that it is funny. After all when the parodies begin you know you have a hit that backfired.

  5. What Marilyn Monroe did for Chanel No5 with a one-liner, it took 7 million dollars and Brad Pitt to destroy. It says a lot about star quality these days

    1. I'd be interested to know if there's an uptick in Chanel No. 5 sales because of the negative attention the ad has generated.

  6. I thought they just juxtaposed Brad's head on someone else who was doing the nip-pinches. I doubt he would jeopardize his $7M paycheck to make fun of this. My question is - do I now have to stop wearing Chanel No. 5? I certainly didn't buy it because of this promotion...

    1. Oh the wonders of technology!

Never stop with No. 5, especially since you've already got it on the go. I've been circling the parfum in recent months, visiting it at the store.

    2. I just put a little Palmolive behind my ears and knees and I am good to go. Seriously land on that bottle of No.5 it really smells great.

    3. Actually my No. 5 is the lovely Eau Premiere. A lovely gift from a lovely person. I love wearing it. Oh, too much love? Well, I shall continue to wear it - Brad and his inevitable-ness be damned! Ha!

  7. I think SNL's parody is more subtle: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/brad-pitt-ad-1/1421402/

The people at Chanel should learn about damage control.

I watched a program on tv some years ago with a psychologist explaning what we all have experience with: The duller the party, the harder it is to get out the door and go home; the worse the relationship, the longer it takes to call it a day and split up etc. etc. It's that seemingly unbeatable human desire to try to fix things instead of stopping the accident - this is what I was taught when I took a first aid class some years ago. The principle applies more generally as well.

    1. What an interesting pattern! I never knew this was a verifiable phenomenon.

    2. It is interesting.

The psychologist was referring to research studies that indicated that those who had rated their relationships the lowest had also had the hardest time getting out.

And I think we've all tried getting out of an awkward conversation - we can end up saying so much nonsense instead of recognizing defeat and rounding up the conversation as quickly as possible.

    3. Marie, this topic you've raised is giving me a lot of food for thought. I'm going to start paying attention to catch myself lingering in situations that are past their prime.

    4. Wow, that sums up one friend's relationship in a nutshell -- she's been talking about kicking him out for years...AA

    5. oh wow- i can't believe I've never recognized/considered/ heard of this theory!Rings sooooo true- thanks for that comment, Marie! In my profession, I deal with all types of people, some great- some wacky- it's always the wackiest ones where I leave frustrated for having wasted too much time discussing irrelevant topics for way too long...I like to think that as a student of psychology- that I am aware of many of the principals and can identify situations/ behaviors that are "textbook"- but never even thought about this one!!- don't know if it will help me to adjust this behavior now that I'm aware, but if nothing else, it brings to comfort to know that it is just another aspect of the human condition- and I'm not alone:) ( which to me, is kinda the best thing psychology often provides us) Thanks, Marie!!
