Dita Von Teese

Of all the famous faces stampeding over each other to cash in on their 15 minutes with a perfume, Dita Von Teese is the one I'd most want to smell like. I mean, look at her! She's beautiful, cultured, theatrical, and speaks fluent French.
Okay, so maybe peeling for a living isn't my idea of fun, but Dita's gig isn't just Jumbo's Clown Room bump and grind. Instead, she carefully researches, choreographs and (un)clothes her routines based on burlesque greats like the famous fan dancer Sally Rand. In her quest for historical accuracy, Dita's practically become a kind of burly-Q version of Colonial Williamsburg.
The Colonial Pussycat Dolls take five.
Dita's perfume, also named Dita Von Teese, is actually not as bow chika wow-wow as you might think. DVT is not so much undressed as dressed-up: with its bouquet of peony, tiare, jasmine and rose, this eau de parfum is gloves'n'hat ladylike. Makes sense when you find out that her lifelong favorite perfume is Houbigant Quelques Fleurs. This perfume is very pretty and feminine, the bottle is elegantly theatrical, and the price is really reasonable. Out of all the celebrity scents currently on the market, Dita Von Teese is head, shoulders and nipple pasties above the rest.
Dita Von Teese is available from CheapSmells.com starting at appx $20 for 20ml
Apologies for the computer-cam video -- I'm visiting London and away from my usual set-up. I'll figure out something that looks less like 7-11 surveillance footage soon.

  1. OMG Katie you did it to me again. I choked on my coffee from you line Jumbo's Clown Room bump and grind. Being a Vegas regular, I have yet to see a strip club called that! I am not so sure the name would entice me to want to go in!

As for Dita she is pure class act!

  2. I'm so happy that you posted this!

I was very curious about Dita's fragrance. The vast majority of celebrity fragrances I find pretty unremarkable. This one interested me because I've always had the impression that she would really care about what she was doing.

    Can't wait to try it!

  3. Also, I love the side boobage of her dress.

    1. If I may be technical on this matter, side boobage refers to a peek of the outer edge of the breast. What we have here is half a cleavage - strange, but it works.

  4. Indeed. What we have here is proof that cleavage shows up when you least expect it.

    That sounds...a bit dirty.

  5. Wow. Dita is a glamorous throwback to a bygone era of oomph and pizzazz served up with class in a tall frosty glass with a little fruit and a paper parasol! Her perfume sounds just as much fun. I really would like a sniff of Dita Von Teese... the perfume naturally!
    Cheers!

  6. Glad to hear of a celebrity fragrance that doesn't incorporate vanilla in some way. I was hoping this would be a little more classical. Though it's nice that she took inspiration from Quelques Fleurs!

  8. I like this perfume - it's pretty sexy, but in a very ladylike way. I had to have my bottle muled from Germany.

  9. Where does one procure such a delectable fragrance in the US?
Katie, do you have some kind of "in" on the black market?
    Great blog, btw!

  11. Just received a bottle of this... Reminds me of a big floral I wore as a teenager in the 80s. Was it Le Jardin d'Amour?? Dang, it's on the tip of my tongue. I mean nose.

  12. Or was it early Byzance by Rochas? Anyone with a better sense of smell than me, please reply!

    1. I don't know those perfumes, can't confirm or deny.

  13. Yes, her perfume is with niche-like quality: in terms of packaging and scent quality. But I am dissapointed a bit by one fact: why didn't she release a tuberose perfume? Tuberose is one glamorous note if done right. But still, even though she is a burlesque artist, she looks very classy and she appears to show a very nice taste in fragrance. In Romania, the VIPs wear just plain fruity perfumes that smell like you poured in some cocktail ( Escada editions). I do feel that preferences in perfume do reveal your sensuality, but also your intellectual side ( if you have one). Katie, as far as I've seen your reviews, you do have very elevated tastes, you "Queen of Sheeba".

    1. Agreed that perfume you choose says so many things, both about the real you and the you you choose to project that day.

It's kind of interesting that DVT didn't go with a voluptuous tuberose - I suppose what she did is less expected. And good thing she didn't because there might be too much of a similarity of the direction of Madonna's debut perfume.
