Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers

...like going on a bender in Trader Vic’s in 1967.

Smelling the Harajuku Lovers series by Gwen Stefani reminds me that summer is winking at us from a distance, giving us “the know you want me” come-on. If you’re too impatient to wait for Mother Nature to get her hindquarters in gear, now’s the time to splash on some Tahiti-in-a-bottle.

If your idea of Polynesian paradise involves cartoon coconuts dancing around neon fruits in lollypop leis, then I can confidently direct you to Harajuku Lovers.

G, in the Gwen Stefani doll-bottle, is the most fully realized tropical juice in the series, while her cutesy cohorts Music, Li’l Angel, Love and Baby offer colorful variations on a fruit punch/floral musk theme.

Collect the whole set, and stage a Japanese-language tutorial with the dolls, where Li’l Angel finally teaches Baby how to say “Kawaii” correctly. Because I learned my pronunciation from Baby in the Harajuku Lovers TV ad, and that blue-bowed bitch let me down. You heard me. I’m blaming my failings on a cartoon doll.

Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers is available from Amazon.com, FragranceNet.com, FragranceX.com, and Perfume.com, starting at $27 for 1.0 oz.

  1. Okay, this is my favorite video yet!! LOL.
I'm only disappointed that it took me this long to find perfume reviews that were playfully snarky, adult, and free of purple prose. More more more!

  2. Yeah yeah yeah! Thanks, Scott. I think there's a certain irony in an "adult" approach to Harajuku Lovers...
